The 2012 Advent Calender: For the 25 days of Christmas, I will be blogging each day about a miscellaneous thing I love. Not necessarily a big thing, not necessarily a small thing and not in any order.
For most of my life I’ve always been close to my oldest brother. He’s seventeen years older than me, and therefore knows exactly how to wind me up at every single stage of my life. Imagine being a teenager with someone who did it all seventeen years ago there to remind you of your innate ridiculousness every week or so. Of course, the flip side of that is that most of the time he understands me very well.
When I was in primary school he emigrated off to Albuquerque, New Mexico, America. According to my mother, he was only there two years, but I remember it being a lot longer. America seemed desperately exotic to me, and that used to be cemented by the very cool presents that he sent back. I remember wearing a real cowboy hat for quite a long time, but the thing that I still have on by bedroom wall to this day is a Native American peace pipe.
It was above my bedroom window until I left home, and its gone from halls to university house, and through my next four homes—without ever losing a feather or having the real rabbit fur ripped off by an angry vegan, and it currently sits on top of my desk with all the other strange items I’ve acquired.
